DFG 3D Viewer | 3rd Workshop on metadata schemes for digital heritage 3D content

We are pleased to announce the third event dedicated to metadata for 3D cultural heritage.

The first edition (Mainz, 2022) focused on mapping selected documentation schemas from German repositories and projects related to 3D models. The second edition (Munich, 2023) expanded this mapping to include several European initiatives and examined the challenges of developing a universal documentation schema for 3D models. The findings from both workshops were compiled and visualised on a Miro Board.

This edition take place as part of DHd24 in Bielefeld, in a hybrid format on Thursday, March 6, 2025, from 11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. (CET) in Room B441. Details on how to join online will be provided soon. You can also join the event online using the following zoom meeting link:

Focus of This Year's Edition

This year, we aim to explore 3D model aggregation and the minimum metadata schema required for this purpose. Key questions include:

  • What information is essential for identifying and interpreting a 3D model?
  • What information is essential for identifying and interpreting a 3D model?
  • Is a standardized typology necessary for 3D models of cultural heritage?
  • How can 3D models be referenced and shared while respecting copyright regulations?
  • What are the differences in metadata schemas between depositing a model in a local repository and transferring data for aggregation?

As in previous editions, the discussion outcomes will be documented on the same Miro Board, contributing to an expanding compendium of knowledge.
